The Home Visit

From the beginning of the Society, the central and most basic activity of Conferences has been the visitation of the needy in the home. This action is the clearest symbol of Vincentian charism because it creates the highest level of respect for the dignity of the poor. It is in the home visit where the visitor, the Vincentian, becomes the guest and the person being helped is the host, creating a ministry of mutuality that allows the host to feel “respected and dignified”.

Another unique aspect of the Vincentian tradition is that Vincentians always visit in pairs. This is because a Conference is seen as a community in service to Christ's poor.
