Friends of the Poor Walk Organizing Committee: In 2008, the Society held its first annual Friends of the Poor (FOTP) Walk (5k) to raise awareness and funds for the Society and its mission to serve the poor in Central Texas. Planning for our September 26, 2009 walk has begun!
Members of the FOTP Walk Organizing Committee are needed to help with location logistics, volunteer recruitment, walker registration, media and public relations. The FOTP Walk Organizing Committee needs volunteers with a variety of different skills and availability. Ideal volunteers will have event planning skills and a passion for the Society’s mission of service to the poor.
Contact Christy at svdpaustincouncil@sbcglobal.net to join the 2009 FOTP Walk committee.

Home Repair Helpers: The Society’s Home Repair Program assists individuals who are physically or financially unable to make their homes habitable. The Home Repair Program Coordinator seeks volunteers who are willing to assist with minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs on a one-time or an ongoing basis. The Society is especially in need of a volunteer electrician.

Newsletter Editor: The Society publishes its newsletter, The Vincentian Herald, four times a year, and we are currently searching for a volunteer newsletter editor. The volunteer will be responsible for arranging, formatting, proofreading, and adding graphics to the newsletter. (The content for the newsletter will be written by staff and other volunteers.)
The ideal volunteer newsletter editor has good writing and editing skills and enjoys simple graphic design.
Contact Christy at svdpaustincouncil@sbcglobal.net to volunteer.

Thrift Store Volunteers: The St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores seek volunteers for both the downtown Austin (1327 S. Congress, Austin) and Round Rock (1610 S. IH 35, Round Rock) locations. Volunteers at the stores help receive donations, sort and price merchandise, assist customers with their purchases, and help with basic administrative tasks. Because a small amount of training is required, long-term volunteers are preferred.
Contact Paul at svdpstoreaustin@sbcglobal.net to volunteer at one of our
St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores.
