In 2001, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul – Diocesan Council of Austin established its Home Repair Program in response to an unmet need in our Central Texas community. 

The Home Repair Program provides needed home repairs for individuals who are financially or physically unable to make their homes habitable. Program participants must own their home and live within the Diocese of Austin. Typical repairs conducted as part of the Home Repair Program include exterior weatherproofing, minor roofing, plumbing, carpentry (including wheel chair ramps), electrical, and heating repairs.

The Society employs one part-time program manager for the Home Repair Program, and he, along with community volunteers, family members, and licensed contractors, performs all repairs at no cost to the homeowner.  In 2008, the SVDP Home Repair Program assessed repair needs on almost 60 homes in Central Texas and was able to offer repair services for approximately 40 of those homes.
